David and I have officially moved into our new apartment. After the long search for a better and bigger place we found it right underneath our nose. The apartment we had been looking for was just behind the duplex we lived in. Every place we've lived in has left a great memory. Our very first place was a pretty great place as well.
Our second old apartment will be missed. We just had such nice time there and I can't forget what a blessing that apartment was. After living in Chicago for the summer of '08 we struggled to find an apartment out here in Provo. We were really nervous as we drove out here because we had no idea where we were going to live. We called a few families that we knew to find out if they had an info on openings. After making many calls we finally realized we had to make arrangements to stay with someone in the meanwhile (we're students so money is scarce and hotels were not an option). Oh gosh just thinking of this gives me the jitters. It was an awful time. But a very cute and loving elderly couple took us in. We had a blast with them. They offered to let us stay with them for a month but we were hoping an apartment would open before that. Not that we didn't want to, it was just that we wanted our own place and our
privacy.
Well I started school and we were still homeless. It was so stressful. I just couldn't focus on school since there was a greater thing to worry about. David and I searched each day until the sun would go down. We visited tons of complexes and duplexes. We were just so desperate that I just thought lets move in to whatever we can find first. Well...we found a really ugly, dirty, rundown basement and I quickly became less desperate.
Finally the moment of glory. As we drove down University Ave I saw a house in the corner that had a renting sign and I quickly dialed the number displayed on the sign. To my relief the office was opened and they told me to print out an application from their website and fax it to them. The sad part was that we we
re being placed on a waiting list (somebody had already applied and they were trying to check their credit). Well we felt hopeless and we knew there was no way we would get the apartment. Well a few days later we get a call from the management telling us we were next and we had gotten approved (apparently the other family was not). We were in euphoria!!! We even paid a week earlier so that we could move in a.s.a.p. We were moved in and settled in no time.
We were so happy. Like really happy. You try being homeless. That happiness didn't last too long after we discovered our neighbors were lazy smokers with a temper. They kind of l
ooked homeless so one of David's friends that would pass the house on his way to school thought our old apartment was a homeless shelter. :( We were homeless before we moved there! How ironic.
We didn't quite enjoy living there so much because of them, they basically ran the whole house. They did as they pleased - not being very mindful of the other tenants. Well, I didn't tolerate it very well so
things got a bit hostile between them and me. David tried to pacify me but they were driving me insane. Well long story short, we decided we weren't going to live there as long as they did, so we started the search for a new place, a month before our contract expired they got evicted. Once they left we felt more comfortable and happy that we decided that we would only move if the apartment behind the duplex opened up...which it did.
What a happy ending!
When David and I talk about this we just laugh, though at the moment it was harsh. Overall, everything is so much nicer when you have the love of your life to help you cope with things. I wouldn't want to be homeless with anybody other than David Phillip Beer.
P.S. David and I had saved a lot of money during our time in Chicago (we were going to take a trip to Mexico) but because we couldn't find any furnished apartments we had to buy furniture. We slept, ate, sat on the ground for a week. :)

Yes....the wretched neighbors who woke us up at 2/3 a.m. swearing and knocking each other down the stairs. I don't think I can forget that.
I actually had a dream about them last night. It was strange.
Oh Cassie, what a story! It's been fun to get to know you through your blog, since Jon and I don't see you guys enough. I can't believe you had to get an apartment on the spot for the new year. I went to BYU and I know the apartments go fast. Glad you guys have a nicer place now without the strange homeless-smoking tenants around.
Glad you found a great place! Much love!
