A lot of people tell me (and I'm sure that similar people tell you) that goals are really important in life. I agree, and I also happen to think that food is really important in life. I would like to combine these two tremendously important things, so Cassie and I are creating our goals for things we're going to make this summer.
First, the desserts:
1. Trifle - this is an English dessert that has a mousse (or a mousse-like thing), cakish fragments, and whipped cream. Everyone who has had it before should know why I want to learn to make it.
2. Tres Leches Cake - I've never had a cake that is more moist than Tres Leches. I'm not saying there isn't one, but I've never had it. Delicious. Cassie is already really good at this one but we haven't made the frosting for it before, and we also want to add some fresh fruit to go with it.
3. Raspberry Buttercream Icing - last summer I started making this frosting, but I didn't get the consistency right, so I want to keep working on it and make it more visually appealing.
4. Flan - this is a Mexican custard dessert that is really tasty, but somehow we've never tried to make it before, so we're going to change things.
5. Buche de Noel - this is a French cake roll that has chocolate mousse in between the layers of cake. It's a Christmastime treat but I want to be ready to make one this Christmas so I've got to try it this summer.
6. Red Velvet Cake or Cupcakes - I've always loved red velvet cake but I've never tried to make one. A little while ago I looked up how they're made and it doesn't seem very difficult, so I'm going to try.
7. Pound Cake - it's a classic: a pound of butter, a pound of flour, a pound of sugar, and you've got some cake. Something like that.
8. Some kind of cake with a pudding filling. This idea is much like my idea for this blog post: I love pudding, and I love cake. It's all about synergy people.
9. I want to make up my own cake recipe. I have never invented a recipe before - although I have customized many recipes - so I want to try it. If it's a total disaster I'll just "forget" to blog about the result.
Now for the foods:
1. Cow Tongue - I know what you're thinking, but it isn't disgusting; it's delicious. Just ask someone that has had it before. In case you don't know someone that has and you haven't had it, just imagine the most tender, succulent beef you've ever tasted. That's how cow tongue tastes.
2. Alfredo sauce - I started making my own Alfredo sauce about a month or two ago and it isn't hard but I'm not totally satisfied with the recipe I have, so I'm working on improving it. I've made some improvements already but I've got some more in mind. We'll see how it goes.
3. Sweet onion sauce - Cassie has told me several times that the only reason she feels the need to go to Subway is that she loves their sweet onion sauce. I've been saying over and over again that the sauce should be easy to make and I could do it, so now, I'm going to do it.
4. Buffalo sauce - I love buffalo wings. Time to make the sauce.
As you can see I don't have as many ideas for the foods as I do for the desserts. If you have any good food ideas, feel free to let me know and we'll try them if possible. We'll be posting pictures of the results of our food goals (SYNERGY!)

So, when it says Cassie posted this it means David, right? Anyway i also had a comment for Cassie: there is no reason to go to subway, not even for second-rate crap sauce.
And i like your summer thinking. i would submit, however, that there are not enough bacon related goals listed. This indicates a steady decline in vision. To regain your vision i recommend Hormel Black Label, but there are many thick cut bacons that will suffice.
also i am a little worried about what you are going to look like at the end of the summer David.
You should get the recipe for the Bacon explosion that Jeff Hendrix made. According to him, it was amazing.
I guess all your bike riding will help if you make all these deserts.
Jon, Bacon is rarely admitted into our home. Greasy. We've been able to live just fine without it. So no goals that include that. As to how we're going to lose the pounds, we're planning to engage in some vigorous exercise all summer long.
Sarah, I think I'm the person who discovered the Bacon explosion. We don't tend to eat a lot of meat at home.

About cow tongue... I was served cow tongue once on my mission, when I lived in Quevedo. When the meal arrived, there was no doubt what we were eating. It looked exactly like you would expect a cow's tongue to look, except there was no cow around it. It was just sitting forlornly on the plate. I believe I ate one bite. My companions (from Guatemala and from Ecuador) didn't even try that much.
Perhaps a different presentation would have helped...
Another goal I have for this summer is to lose 20 pounds, so we'll see how well I can combine those two. I have started riding a bike to work, so that'll help.
That's interesting about the cow tongue Robin. I have never been served cow tongue that way. The way I've had it most is in tacos, and it is amazing that way. Maybe once I'm all practiced I'll make some for you to try.
