So Cassie and I are now a little over 3 weeks in to being a mother and a father. Things have been going well so far, I think. One of the hardest things about having a first child is not knowing what is normal nor how things should go. You'd think you could just ask people around you, except one person's normal is another person's NO THAT WILL KILL YOU, YOUR CHILD, AND THE WHOLE WORLD!
That might be a little over-dramatic, but people definitely have *very* different opinions on how things should be going. All I know is that Naomi never turns blue or green, she definitely has lung power, and she must be healthy because she's so darn cute.
It's a very interesting journey, trying to figure out how to be a parent. I really think all you can do is your best and things will most likely be okay. Unfortunately, you don't get a practice child, timeouts, and there is no reset button. I think that all things considered we've been very blessed, but we're just going to take some time to have to figure things out together.
The hardest thing, other than not knowing what normal is, would have to be when I can't help Cassie. Some things it seems like a mother has to learn all by herself and nothing I can do really helps things along. It's hard to not only not be in control but be completely powerless to help my wife or my child. The good news is that I know that my daughter is in very capable hands, and my wife can take comfort in an adorable little face.

A new diagnostic standard, "so darn cute." Good.
We had a friend who stood in the doorway of Smith's Food King holding his baby daughter while his wife shopped. Every woman over 50 who passed by alternately bundled her more or loosened her scarf, each certain that she was too cold or too warm.
I like it when they turn purple.
Cassie - I'm so happy for you guys! She's beautiful!
Cassie - Naomi is a doll - I'm so happy for you!
